Ah, finally finished something! She was darker skinned but I seem to like using a lot of white pencil at the end. I’m also a bit scared of darker colors over worry that problems would be harder to correct. There should probably be darker shadows here but I’ll work on that for the next one.
I’ve started this 5″ x 7″ Basset hound. I don’t know why I keep going over the eyes so much in pencil when it’s supposed to get color over it. And then sometimes I think I should do a pencil drawing as a finished product. Currently undecided!

Thanks for dropping in! Hello to Paint Party Friday, which I have not joined in ages!
Also, is anyone doing 30 Paintings in 30 Days in January? I was a little skeptical about the more involved sign-ups, but it looks like you will still add your own link each day in addition to your photo. I couldn’t manage it during September, but last January I did it, and it was a terrific experience that I highly recommend. Maybe I’ll dig out some of those January 2014 images for my next post. :)

I love it! Either way she looks fantastic, and the little elephant is adorable!
I just love the randomness of this! (At least I think it’s random! lol! ) and the hound is sweet! Merry Christmas!
Interesting and unique pieces!
Hahahaha, I love it! Every child needs a blue elephant on the head! I know at least six who would LOVE it:-) Except one of them insists that he would like a pig on his head… That basset priceless. The pencil sketch alone is already soooo well done!
Adorable puppy, and who woulda thought to put an elephant on a girl’s head? :) I tend to think opposite of you, that more color is easier to change in Photoshop than too light. To each his own? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
That makes sense! But none of this process is done digitally (except re-sizing the scan and cleaning up the image a bit because the scanner is dirty). I should probably join the digital revolution, but who has time. :D
What a fun site, so magical!!! I love all your work, especially the sleeping dragon! Deb
That bassett is adorable, and I just love your girl with the unique hairdressing :-) Lovely work. Hope you’ll join the challenge, looking forward to seeing your paintings! I won’t be able to do it, our stuff will only arrive somewhere in January and we’ll be busy unpacking. But I’d love to follow your challenge!
Merry Christmas Cindy! and happy new year!
Oh my – that basset-dog is the cutest thing ever!
Love him!
And thanks for showing the proces with the girl – love her expression :)
I read the title and smiled:) Love he unusual portrait and the basset:)
Love the soft translucent colors of the baby elephant. Basset hound is a terrific rendering…..beautiful expressive eyes and great work contouring and shadow work with the pencil.
Gosh, I haven’t visited you in ages and I’ll try to catch up a bit now :) That colored penciled girl with an elephant on her head… well, she is super duper great! You do have such a great hand at coloring. And it really doesn’t look much different from your Copics… in a way. Which way is better for you?
That Basset is aaaamazing too! Those eyes…. awwww!
Hope you are having great Holidays my friend! <3
The basset hound, oh the basset hound! I just love that face! Colored or not, he’s great!
