Hooray for Face Number 8, for the February 29 Faces challenge! And also Paint Party Friday, for which I am one day late – but yesterday was drawings not paintings. :)
I felt a little burnt out the last couple days. I had (have!) several started canvases I didn’t like at all. Even though I knew if I worked with them eventually they would be better. Finally these crazy bug eyes appealed to me so I just kept at it.
Tons of progress pics below, including lots of very ugly intermediate steps. You just gotta keep at it! Which is what I keep saying. Thanks for stopping in! (Continued apologies for the photography and lighting omg.)

Love your buggy royalty! And I appreciate seeing her come together in the in progress shots. We all get burnt out, but you’ve rebounded well!
The patterns make this! Slumps are so hard to get over and you did so royally!
ah, I can count on you!!! THis is so cute, a mantis/humanoid.
I know what you mean about those horrible middle stages when you do not know if it will live or die under a layer of gesso or into the trash. Good save. You buggy princess is adorable.
She is fantastic! And you didn’t sketch! I love those giant eyes!
She’s so fun! I know that awkward middle stage all too well. When I want to give up on a piece I usually tell myself, “OK, I’ll put 10 more minutes into it, and if it hasn’t improved, then I can ditch it.” and most often it works out and the piece takes a turn for the better.
Sorry I am late visiting, your faces are fabulous, if you have been feeling burnt out it doesn’t show because these are inspired, loving the colours and fanasy element too :)
Wow! You are an inspiration. I love her buggy eyes and her vivid green. Maybe a little “slump” was good for your art???
Her strange bug/human eyes are working!
It’s so much fun to see those in-progress-pics! Love those big bulging eyes, and the colours you use!
Thank you for sharing your progress pics – you are so lovely! Your bug eyed princess is fantastic! :))
perfect title for this painting!! she’s really pretty!!
Those ” Bug eyes are so different! any one can feel “worn” out with all you do! Don’t be discouraged!! Mom
So cute! I love the crazy green and the progress pictures are continually amazing :D
She makes me smile :)
“Daughter of the Mantis Clan”….wow, perfect title for a great piece of art work. I could see her starring in Star Trek!!! Love the progress shots, interested to know where you got the app.
“Burn out” quite a common phrase in my life, I feel it all the time…. and quite normal for someone who is always on the move : ) Take care.
Annabelle : )
She’s adorable!!! I think burn out works miracles for you ;)
Those crazy eyes are her personality! Loved how you went in with the white freestyle outline. The beauty of acrylics versus markers?
I love her designer eye shadow!
