It’s another experiment with colored pencils, both Polychromos and Prismacolors. I was going to outline the dragon in white but worried about wrecking things! I do wish I had shaded the ground beneath him, and a bit more under the mushrooms, but alas, it is in the mail! This was my last secret santa art gift for the year. I am glad to be done; it is a little stressful.

Here are a couple recent art cards. Lots of similar color in all three, including two of my favorite Copic colors: V04-Lilac and BG10-Cool Shadow, and my favorite Staedtler Triplus fine liner, magenta. You got favorites? Are they secret?

Cindy, great dragon illustration. Dragons are a great mythical creature to draw. The Daydream illustration is very cool. Great composition and the quilt of background colors compliments well with the cool tone of the foreground.
Charming! Its an interesting color combination. Daydream and Queen Willa are fantastic…..the wash and snow flecks effects are beautiful!

What I like about the dragon is the idea that he might be teeny tiny, Cindy. I never thought of a mini dragon before. You are so creative!
That is so funny! I thought of the mushrooms as being giant rather than the dragon being small, but of course it could go either way! :D

You know how I adore that dragon, so I have to concentrate on Daydream, the progress pics for which have TOTALLY INTRIGUED ME! Did you draw the figure over the blue? Or did you put the blue down over the drawing? Because it’s super interesting (and of course, the result is to die for)! It makes me want to watercolor and draw over, or marker randomly and draw over. SO COOL, CINDYD!
Here’s what happened. First the lavender and blue background, then loose swirls, and then some intuitive faces type broad strokes for facial features. Then refined from there! The slightly darker blue in the background that ended up in part of the hair and in the face was one of those happy perfect accidents. I mean, I don’t know enough to plan such things. LOL
Reminds me of that thing you showed on your blog, a masterboard, maybe? Where you do a whole background and cut it up and use each one as the background for a new thing.
