One Art Card, Two Dramatic Surgical Procedures

though accompanied Found Poetry ATC
2.5″ x 3.5″ Copics, fine liners, clipped text

Finally a bit more Found Poetry. This follows an absolutely thrilling week wherein Wilson (the dog) underwent emergency surgery for an intestinal obstruction. That’s right, our twelve-year-old Lhasa/King Charles mix with a bad heart, epilepsy, two previously torn ccl ligaments (back knees), and an enlarged liver, sent himself to emergency surgery because he ate a big plastic thing (unidentifiable after traveling partway through dog). And spent two days in intensive care. Here is the culprit with all kinds of tubes at the hospital, and more recently, recovering at home.

Wilson, April 2015
After surgery and feeling better at home

Guilty? Yep. Almost unbearably cute? Yep. More Wilson here.

Perhaps you thought that was enough to make a thrilling week. You would be right! And yet, two days later the man of the house, Bert, underwent (planned) back surgery. A couple days were spent back and forth between the hospital (where Bert stayed one night and was released the next day), and home, where Wilson has approximately seven bajillion pills on varying schedules.

Both are recovering nicely. Also, I did this art, but not much else. :)

Cat Girls and Strange Color Schemes, Copics

(Left to right) Fern, Katja Blue, Anise, Fara
Each 2.5″ x 3.5″ Copics, fine liners, white gel pen

A couple people asked where these specific color themes were coming from, and the answer is a swap called “Build-a-Girl” with three columns of suggestions in these categories: Physical attributes (like wings, antlers, animal ears, warts, claws), Props (feathers, flowers, gears, elaborate jewelry, cigarette, books) and specific color schemes chosen by the swap organizer.

The above colors schemes are Pink/Orange/Green, Monochromatic Blue, Sepias, and Black/White/Red/Pink. Some of these color combinations I never use – like green with pink or orange! But it’s a great opportunity to do things outside your comfort zone.

Thanks for dropping in! Hello once again to Paint Party Friday!

Colorful Accessorizing in Pen and Ink

So these are my four latest art card maidens:

Four More Art Cards, March 2015
Each 2.5″ x 3.5″ Copics, fine liners, gel pen

Left to right: Jade, Brea, Gwennis, Violet. I should add that for most of these recent cards, I’ve been limited to a list of specific palettes that I don’t normally use. Which is an interesting parameter to work with!

I thought it would be neat to compare these most recent four to the first four maidens, made for the theme “Celestial Maidens” way in back in July of 2012 when I thought I should try to start drawing people. The features and details are a bit more refined in the current batch.

Four Girls on Various Themes, Copic Markers

Four Girls on Various Themes (click to enlarge)
Each 2.5″ x 3.5″, pen and ink

(Left to right: Celestus (with cat), Tamara, Francine and Skye)

Fine people of the blogosphere, I bring you my continuing tale of illness and the American healthcare system. No, not really. But I did go to the doctor three times in two months, and only on the third visit did I get some antibiotics, which I hope will help. But if it’s viral, they won’t help. But maybe I have more than one issue, who knows?!

The first doctor thought I would be over an upper respiratory infection soon and told me to wait it out. The second doctor, a month later, said I probably had adult onset allergies. And finally two days later, maybe bronchitis-maybe pneumonia, let’s try antibiotics. And if that doesn’t work, next is a chest X-ray. Yeesh.

Enough about that! Above you will find some new art cards, three on a Build-Girl-Theme with various attribute and color choices, and one more beehive-haired steampunk lass, Francine, at the bottom left. I’ve started a new Flickr album with all the fancy gals from 2015 to date.

Thanks for dropping in! More Found Poetry next time, perhaps! [And hopefully no more griping about being sick. Arrrgh!]

Fancy Hair, Fancy Gadgets, Fancy Overload

Jasmine, Tika, Ooni (click to enlarge)
Each 2.5″ x 3.5″ Copics, fine liners, gel pen

I kid. Of course it’s not possible to get fancy overload. These are the three most recent art cards with the big hair-fancy clothes themes. Which I apparently cannot get enough of. Maybe this is why I like Project Runway (despite the fact that most of the clothes produced on that show are dreadful – mainly because of stupidly short “challenge” timelines).

Also! Because I told someone recently I would be putting new things in my shop soon (after many months of neglect), I have finally done so! A whole bunch of newer art cards including Tika, in the center above.

Lots of progress pics! Thanks for stopping in! I have yet another big hair woman in the works. :)

And hello to Paint Party Friday! It’s been a while.

Pretty Fraus and Found Poetry

Two found poetry art cards
2.5″ x 3.5″ Copics, fine liners, gel pen

No progression scans for these. Once in a while I like to just go from start to finish without scan pauses. You get poems instead!

I have been inspired by some recent purchases at my Etsy store, to finally list a bunch of new things. So I am going to try to do that this weekend. As for Etsy in the long haul, I am undecided. I have a somewhat more negative feeling about them, than a positive one. Which is really too bad, but they seem quite far from their original stated purpose of being a marketplace of handmade art and goods by artists and (very) small businesses.

Thanks for dropping in!

More Fancy Hair and Fancy Doodads!

Yuki, Nina and Agent Coo
Each 2.5″ x 3.5″ Copics, fine liners, gel pen

The latest fancy lasses, who have inspired this collective:

Twelve Fancy Dos, theslumberingherd.com
Assorted art cards, 2.5″ x 3.5″ pen & ink

Row one: Calliope, Geraldine, Sayoko, Phyllis; Row Two: Virginia, Yuki, Betty Lou, Nina & Agent Coo; Row Three: Tamako, Elsa, Dorothy, Bubblegum Geisha. (Because I always name them!)

Thanks for dropping in! I have an idea for a book that uses lots of my art cards from the last few years. For one thing, I like them, and for another, it puts this project firmly into progressing territory as opposed to haven’t-started territory. I know which territory I prefer!

More on the book soon, maybe! Thanks for dropping in!

Just Another “Where Did February Go” Post

Faces 17 & 18, Elsa and Bubblegum Geisha
Each 2.5″ x 3.5″ Copics, fine liners, gel pen

These are seventeen and eighteen of the 29 Faces challenge. Over the weekend I managed six more, and that’s not too bad.

six in progress, pencil, pen, Copics

Being sick is not pleasant, and this nasty cold has dragged on too long. I’d say most of us here on the winter side hope Spring shows up soon! Thanks for stopping in. :)

Steampunk Beehive and 29 Faces to Date

Calliope, 2.5″ x 3.5″
Copics, finer liners, gel pen

Notes from the Sick Room, Day 6:  The bugs think they are winning, but they are not. I will outlive you, tiny hellions! The worst is I feel better in the afternoons, but then the evening and morning are sucky again. Arrgh! Perhaps one benefit to getting sick is to have empathy for others when they get sick. Which I will. Because this is SUPER SUCKY. But I do like my beehive steampunk lass (progess pics below)!

29 Faces February 2015, the first 15
Mostly 2.5″ x 3.5″, pen and ink, Copics, colored pencil

And these are the first fifteen of 29 Faces. So, it is day 22 and I am at #16. Still doable, people! Thanks for dropping in! Apologies if I have not visited back, I am trying but the teeny bugs continue to sap my energy. Bah.

More Faces, Soulful Beasts in Colored Pencil

So I don’t have the plague but I do have a terrible head cold. Going on Day 4. Ugh! Even so, I have managed this Jackalope, which was requested by someone at illustratedatcs.com.

Jackalope, 2.5″ x 3.5″
Ink and colored pencil

Earlier in the week I managed a couple beasts, though one is unfinished.

Jia, 2.5″ x 3.5″ Colored pencil
Talia, 2.5″ x 3.5″ Copics, ink (in progress)

I apologize if you have come to my site and gotten an error message. It has been happening much too frequently. I have just done a bunch of updates but if that doesn’t work, I shall have to move to a new host. If so, I hope it’s not a terrible mess! I prefer to be making art!

It’s Day 20 of 29 Faces for February, 2015, and I believe these three bring me to 15 total. Next time I’ll post them all to date. Thanks for dropping in!
